  •      On a recent trip to Hilo town, it was drizzling. But as is common here in Hawaii, the sun was shining too. The factors were just right to produce a very bright rainbow. In fact, it was really 2 rainbows, both very bright. I have even seen a triple rainbow on occassion, though the third would be very faint.

Many factors involved with this rainbow sighting made this one very special. The size & amount of the raindrops in the air. The angle of the sunlight. The direction my car was traveling. All presented a special rainbow, which I felt was just for me. I was judging how far away the right end of the bow was from the front right of my car & guessed the lower one to be about 10-15 feet ahead of my car. As is the case with rainbows, as my car moved forward, so did the rainbow.

But why did I think this one was my special rainbow? Driving along on a multi-lane roadway, I had to keep watch on traffic behind & to the side of me. At one point, I glanced along the left side of my car. There, I saw the other end of the bow. I thought how cool that was! I decided to factor how close that side came to my car, so I carefully scanned that area, only to find that it seemed attached to my door!

Not believing what I was seeing, I kept glancing back to the pavement alongside of my door. Each time, the end of the rainbow was still there. It was hard for me to keep my focus on the traffic because of being drawn to the sight of the rainbow touching my car. But I kept watching, while continually checking the traffic. I was able to see the rainbow attached to my car for quite a while, perhaps even a mile, until the road curved a different direction. I was sad to notice that the bow no longer touched my car. It was still pleasant to watch the rainbow, along iwth its twin, for the rest of the time that they both were visible. I also noticed that every vehicle ahead of me, throwing up 'rooster tails' of mist behind their rear tires, also caused rainbow effects.

What a wonderful drive! I only wish that I had a camera with me, & would have been able to stop & take a picture of my special rainbow!

  • How beautiful !

I wanted to thank you for reccomending someone file an appeal with the VA for my grandfather.  My mother did so after I told her what you had said, before then we didn't even know it was possible kind of a take what you get situation.  The VA sent a letter last week and instead of cuttign his check they are giving him an increase so that we can hire a nurse to come in and help care for him.  Without your advice, we would have been struggling to provide his monthly medical costs, so thank you so much from all of my family.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous new year !
